Hey Adrian, next time give me a call. We specialize in that...probably would have cost you less. :-) There is a log you can look at to see where the backup fails and 'might' be worth it to do a backup of your device, a compete wipe, reinstall the software and uninstall Desktop manager and reinstall. No guarantees but check the logs first, see if anything jumps out. Without seeing it I can't comment too much. I haven't heard of consistent issues like yours though.

I recently updated to the new desktop software for my Tour. I like the new interface but I had to get my tech guy to spend about $500 worth of time to get it set up to sync to my calendar. I find the error messages unhelpful; for example, all my backups of the phone end up with zero-length files and the message that there was an error backing up, and I should check to see if the phone is still connected. The error is obviously not related to the connection to the phone! The desktop software seems to have several weird glitches. My last sync is always shown as "Today, 5:18 PM". Syncs sometimes work and sometimes don't. It seems to be a problem to use mass storage mode; then it isn't. When a problem occurs it is almost as if it is random! At least it is not as flakey as the previous version.

Not really, luckily when I take it back for yet another repair job, I don't have to pay them the 250.00 for a loaner. I have lots of other bb's to use. Just seems like horrid service and everyone now wants you to buy a replacement plan of 6-7 dollars a month. Shouldn't the phones just work properly and that they have a proper process for faulty phones? Drives me crazy.

I'm also a very unhappy Bell Mobility customer

http://forums.crackberry.com/f160/very-disappointed-bell-mobility-524887/

I also bought the Bold 9700, although through the Bell Mobility store and I also purchased Bell Mobility's premium Plan extended warranty. However, the warranty does not apply to manufacturers defects in the first year. Which is the problem I have, and seems to be your problem as well. Not sure why they are telling you that you should have bought the warranty.

Has your problem been resolved?

Eventually got my BlackBerry back and still have issues and no one takes responsibility. I even called the Store manager, who said to email him all the info and he will contact the RIM rep. I have send 2 emails, called 2 times and no response. Such horrid customer service.

Thanks Dave. They get it once you explain but I see some issues in Canada when people get their bill and don't have a texting plan and didn't understand that they weren't BBM'ing. Even my brother, who is pretty savvy, and we BBM. He got a new BB and started texting me, which is unusual. I tell him to stop and go back to BBM, he continues on.....finally when I see him ( He lives in another city), I ask why, he says what are you talking about I am BBMing you. I go through and show him and the lightbulb went on but still, this is about the 5th person that I have come across with this issue. Soon Canada will catch up with low cost unlimited texting plans. :-)

A few of my clients have asked about this since the beta versions of BBM 5 were out. I have explained it several times until they see where to view the contact as SMS vs BBM, then again, most users in the U.S. have unlimited text packages and weren't overly concerned about addition costs.

No, the newest version allows you to invite via text messaging contact and it appears to confuse them as it "looks' like a BBM message, by default show in the BBM contacts and not SMS app. I have to play around with it more but I can't see a way to remove the text chatting from within BBM.
